Chimerica is a series of collaged photographs that incorporate imagery from my travels in China and life in America. The neolexic word Chimerica is a recent term to describe the symbiotic relationship between China and the United States. This work explores the technique of the “angle of totality” which is the strategy of depicting multiple perspectives, found in traditional Chinese landscape painting. With technology as the protagonist, I develop images that connect to the story-telling traditions of the past and allow for depiction and reflection on our modern narrative. As I re-shape and re-experienced the original digital images, these landscapes are not intended as a single visual confrontation but an accumulation of experiences that attempt to describe one single moment of exaltation before the beauty of nature.
